Are switchblades legal in Canada?

I live in BC and I was wondering if it's legal to own a switchblade in Canada? Also is it legal to carry one on you? I'm pretty sure that the ones where you press a button are illegal but my friend has one that you manually pull out and he says it's legal. The only reason why I want to have one is for self defense, especially after those crazy riots they had in downtown Vancouver. I'm also under the age of 18.
