What is the legality of bladed weapons in Ontario?

Switchblades, machetes, exotic foreign blades, katanas, "horse swords"............basically, anything with a cutting edge that isn't being used for cooking or gardening. How does the law work in respect to these objects? I have heard, for example, that switchblades are illegal in Canada, but I also have it from a reliable source that they can be legal under the right circumstances. Some Traditional martial arts schools use swords, and I don't see them having any trouble from the cops. Detailed, sourced answers are appreciated.
